Our topic this term focuses on Energy and Electricity. 5/6J eagerly watched me bring in the boxes full of batteries, wires, globes, motors, switches and buzzers. Yay for hands on science lessons!  They really are the best kind.

Over the last few weeks 5/6J have been set many challenges using the electrical equipment. We’ve had to make a simple series circuit, a parallel circuit, a circuit with a switch and a circuit with more than one component.

We’ve made an ‘steady hand’ buzzer test and even made electromagnets. It’s amazing some of the things that 5/6J have discovered and talked about!

We have also researched the history of electricity and some important people, discussed the different forms of energy, role played being electrons in a circuit and even had a game of ‘electricity head’.

Next up is our end of year ‘in class project’, where 5/6J kids get to choose their own tasks to suit their own smartness!  Stay tuned…
