This term we are learning about dancing and will be choreographing our own dance. We will be looking at different dance styles of the 1980s, a time with many many different music, dance and fashion styles. Which look and sound is your favourite?

BOY BAND  – New Kids on The Block ‘Hangin’ Tough’ 1989. The 1D of the late 80s. Miss B even went to their concert in 1990!

DANCE GROUP – Technotronic ‘Get Up (Before the Night is Over)’ 1989. Early dance music that paved the way for the 90s sound.

GIRL POWER – Mel and Kim ‘Respectable’ 1987. Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, The Bangles, Bananarama and Mel & Kim put female singers on the map. Think big hair, fluoro colours, flowers and perms.

GLAM ROCK – Twister Sister ‘I Wanna Rock’ 1984. Rock music was about make up, big hair and silly film clips like this one.

CHEERLEADER – Toni Basil ‘Mickey’ 1981. This song is still a big hit today. Toni’s cheerleading film clips were all the rage in the early 80s.

NEW WAVE – Adam and the Ants ‘Ant Music’ 1980 Somewhere between punk and rock, New Wave bands blended sounds between the 70s and 80s. Most bands came out of England.
