At KSPS we have a mascot! His name is Kinta and he is a Kookaburra.

A Laughing Kookaburra actually, native to Eastern Australia. The Laughing Kookaburra is not really laughing when it makes its familiar sound. The cackle of the Laughing Kookaburra is actually to warn other birds to stay away.

Have you heard the sound of the kookaburra?

We are going to create a Pastel Artwork of a Kookaburra with our special classroom visitors from China. Here are some other artworks for inspiration!

Let’s use our Steve Parish book ‘How to Draw Australian Animals’ as a starting guide. Then Miss B will demonstrate how to blend the soft pastels to create the feathers of a Kookaburra.

  1. I am really impressed with these artworks 56J. You have learnt some clever techniques to make the kookaburra’s feathers seem real. If I were to use pastels with my classes what tips should I give my students before we start so that they can produce some equally effective artworks?
