This week our School Education Director came to visit our school and our classroom. While she was in our room we were having our morning routine.

Every morning 5/6J participates in the morning routine. This involves reading our visual timetable of the day, which you can see on the window next to the screen. We then discuss the date and weather, checking various weather websites or learning about a country in the world who is celebrating their national day.

The next part of the Morning Routine is working out how many days of learning we are up to out of 100. Friday was day 25, and 5/6J is recording these using decimals. So it was 0.25 and that means we have 0.75 days remaining until we reach our 100th day of learning.

After the 100 days of learning, we have โ€˜Talk for Learningโ€™, where we discuss things with partners. We may be asked to describe, recall, sequence, argue, question, infer, judge, hypothesise, imagine or report. In this photo we were arguing whether Homework should be compulsory.

The final thing we do as part of our morning routine is write ‘A Sentence A Day’. Monday-Wednesday we write one with the teacher on the board, Thursday we write one with our table team and Friday we write our own. Each sentence has a grammar focus, a punctuation focus and a vocabulary focus. This week we wrote compound sentences with apostrophes and the vocabulary focus was that it had to be someoneโ€™s opinion.

We are enjoying the morning routine and always have lots to talk about and lots of questions.

5/6J students, tell our visitors – What is something you have learned this year during our Morning Routine?
