Last Thursday, some 5/6J students visited Warragamba Dam for our free excursion provided by Penrith City Council. Corey, Tristan, Caitlin, Jessie, Selena, Mitchell, Skye, Cameron, Ryan and Letisha attended this year. You can look at photos from last years’ trip here.

We visited the dam, then went to see a pollution trap, and finally finished by planting some trees at Werrington Creek. Here are some photos:

While we were at Warragamba Dam we heard the story about the incredible eels that get released through the dam’s gates and travel downstream all the way to the ocean, and then across the Pacific to Vanuatu to have their babies. The baby eels then migrate all the way back to the Dam and climb back in!  You can read more about it by clicking here: Incredible Eel Migration.

We also learnt about the different ways that Sydney is Water wise.

Check out this  Model of the dam!

And click here and here for some water related interactive games!

Didn’t go on the excursion? Look carefully at the pictures above and write a question in the comments.

If you did go on the excursion, you can answer a question!

  1. Hi to the world,

I was one of the 35 kids that went on the excursion this year and last year. I think it is a good experience and since last year I have done more recycling and washed the car on the grass. Here are some of the things you can do:
recycle, wash the car on the grass, turn off lights or any other power source when not in use and put fences around farms.
This year was great as well.We planted 150 trees in Ellison Reserve against Werrington Creek.

Well that’s all, Thanks for reading.

    Jessie
